It is the pronunciation of the correct current local Gaelic form that is shown on the maps even though some of the names are shown incorrectly on the O.S. map or are generally used in their anglicised form.

 

This list shows the correct spelling and current name for these names.

 

The list is given in strict alphabetical order rather than ignoring the article as in the list of elements.

 

Those names marked ‘•’ are the names of deer forests which are not included on the maps included with these notes.

Additional notes

 

Coire Loch na Geala / Meall Loch na Geala. The first edition of the O.S. map has these as ‘na Deala’ (n jal) with the menaing ‘of the leeches’. Subsequent maps were changed to the form given. None of these forms has been recorded since and the more modern names are given instead.
